FACTOR INFLUENCING CIGARRETE PREMIUM PURCHASING DECISIONS IN JEMBER REGENCY

ABSTRACT
Cigarettes are a consumption commodity that play an important economic role while simultaneously generating social and health implications. The development of the cigarette market in Indonesia shows an increasingly clear segmentation between premium and non-premium cigarettes, reflecting differences in consumer behavior and preferences. This study aims to analyze the consumer decision-making process in cigarette purchases in Jember Regency and to identify the factors influencing the decision to purchase premium cigarettes. This research employs a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 60 cigarette consumers in Jember Regency. Data were analyzed using logistic regression. The results indicate that, simultaneously, age, education, income, number of family members, length of smoking, number of cigarettes consumed per day, and employment status significantly influence the decision to purchase premium cigarettes. Partially, education and employment status have a positive and significant effect, while the number of family members has a negative and significant effect. Employment status is the most dominant variable, indicating that consumers with permanent employment have a substantially higher likelihood of choosing premium cigarettes compared to those without permanent employment.These findings suggest that the decision to purchase premium cigarettes is more strongly influenced by social factors and economic stability than by purely economic factors.
