ABSTRACT
Fish feed has the highest proportion in the production cost structure of catfish farming businesses, ranging
between 40-60%. The high price of commercial fish feed is the cause of high feed costs. The government,
through The Self-Sufficiency Fish Feed Program is trying to encourage fish farmers to produce fish feed at
low prices using local raw materials. However, most fish farmers do not use on-farm produced feed.
Therefore, research is needed to analyze the factors that influence the decision of catfish farmers to use on-
farm produced feed. This research was carried out in Bogor Regency in August – December 2022. Cross
section data was used in this research. The logistic regression model was used to determine the factors that
influence the decision of catfish farmers to use on-farm produced feed. The research results that the
variables of pond area and proportion of use commercial fish feed have a significant effect on the decision
of catfish farmers to use on-farm produced feed. The quality of on-farm produced feed influences the
farmer's decision. Based on the research results, the recommendation for the government is the need for
standardization of the quality of local feed raw materials, while for fish farmers, the strategy is to mix fish
feed to reduce costs without reducing FCR.
Keywords: feed quality; fish farmers’ characteristics; logistic regression; production cost; purposive sampling; local raw materials.
