ABSTRACT
This study aims to examine the distribution of potential, challenges, and strategies for utilizing natural resources in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan. The methods used are a combination of qualitative descriptive approaches, field studies, and spatial techniques. The qualitative descriptive approach is used to analyze challenges and strategies in sustainable natural resource conservation. Primary data was obtained through interviews with farmer group leaders, neighborhood association leaders, and local communities. Secondary data was obtained from the Central Statistics Agency and Ina Geoportal. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. Field studies were conducted to identify the distribution of natural resource potential and spatial analysis using overlay techniques through ArcGIS software. Processed SAS Planet satellite data and Ina Geoportal administrative maps produced a map of the distribution of natural resource potential. The results showed that Samboja Subdistrict has food resources, including vegetables, nuts, and local fruits. Natural resource management faces challenges related to soil structure, soil acidity, and land conversion. The strategies implemented include rehabilitation, crop variety selection, and strengthening land conversion regulations. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for policies aimed at improving food security in Samboja District, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.
